Whistlestop Valley - Little Railway, BIG adventures
Whistlestop Valley offers fun for all ages with a range of facilities including a ride-on miniature train, two outdoor adventure playgrounds, indoor activity area and a large jumping pillow. Test out your putting skills on their Crazy Golf 9 hole course and whizz around the track on the Pedal Cars. Hop on the big train for a 25 minute journey through the Yorkshire countryside to Shelley Station (*please check our timetable). During weekends/school holidays face painting and fairground rides are also included in your ticket price.
Stop to refuel in The Firebox Café at Clayton West Station or enjoy waffles, brownies and scoops of Grandpa Greenes at The Turntable dessert parlour at Shelley Station.
There are a host of special events throughout the year to keep your little ones entertained: from character events such as Halloween Ghost Train and very popular Christmas events in November/December. Train tickets for events for 2025 have already been released: Peter Rabbit, Bluey and Bingo, Ben and Holly, Gruffalo & Zog and Wallace and Gromit.
Whistlestop Valley is open most weekends, Bank Holidays & daily during most local school holidays.
Through the week you can join them for their Young Engineers days on selected Mondays and Fridays, which is a day aimed at pre-schoolers to explore all the Whistlestop Fun!
Whistlestop Valley offers school groups the excellent combination of a fun day out alongside a fantastic educational experience. Whether you are looking for a visit tailored around a specific curriculum topic, or just looking for a fun day out, Whistlestop Valley is a great choice.
They are also dog friendly!
Well-behaved pooches are very welcome at Whistlestop Valley on general admissions day and are permitted to travel free-of-charge on the Kirklees Light Railway. All they ask is that you book your dog a ticket. Dogs are allowed inside the facilities (except the playgrounds and jumping pillow) and our eateries but they must be kept under control and on a short leash. For the safety & comfort of all our canine & human guests, we respectfully request that dogs are left at home on special event days (unless specifically stated otherwise on the event page). Guide dogs & other dogs used by our visitors for special reasons are always welcome.
