Chiddingstone Castle, Edenbridge

Historic Castle with lots for kids and Schools

Chiddingstone Castle, whose history can be traced back to the early 16th Century, is a unique country house located in the historic village of Chiddingstone and was home to the late antiquarian Denys Eyre Bower between 1955 and 1977. Denys was a gifted collector who devoted his life to collecting art and antiques. There are now 4,000 fascinating objects on display including Japanese lacquer, Samurai armour and swords; Ancient Egyptian antiquities; Royal Stuart portraits and Jacobite memorabilia; and Buddhist objects. A number of Victorian ‘upstairs downstairs’ rooms are also open to visitors, including the Castle Kitchen and Servants’ Hall.
The beautiful 35 acres of grounds which surround the Castle include a lake, woodland, rose garden and a Grade II* listed Orangery. Discover the new ‘Fields of Eternity’ garden – a microcosm of Ancient Egypt where visitors can learn about life and the environment in 2000BC. The Castle can be booked exclusively for weddings and parties www.chiddingstonecastle.org.uk
