Once a royal castle, from where Mary, Queen of Scots escaped, after being held from

1567-8. Set on a small island in Loch Leven the castle is accessible by boat from the main pier at Kinross.

The visitor centre is beside Loch Leven. This is one of the most popular RSPB nature reserves in Scotland.  The visitor centre overlooks the loch where pink-footed and greylag geese, whooper swans and thousands of ducks spend the winter
